Interesting and helpful. As an older teacher, one observation is that during the past 20 yrs. in education, teachers have taken on more of the responsibility for education. Now we're giving it back to students. I understand that this is not a simple distinction, but believe that little real learning happens without students ownership.

Other educator's ideas, repackaged and re-branded. The book also has few (if any) examples of applying the "gradual release" model to more in-depth or longer-term concepts. Read Dewey and Vygotsky instead.

This is the first book I read about scaffolding. I have a lot of teacher resource books, and there are many books that I give away, but this is a book I am holding onto. I love how clear and concise this book is. It's a very great introduction on how to scaffold lessons in the classroom!

I attempt to teach in this way. I never had the structure that is logically explained in this book. This book put logic and much better strucure in my teaching. I checked out Doug Fisher. His awards and publishing are a small part of a teacher/author credibility. From what I can find, Doug Fisher has the experience in the classroom to make him very credible in my views. I am promoting this book to my math department and all my peers throughout my district.

New reprint. The pictures in this book are scans of scans of scans. The pictures are grainy, fuzzy, and sometimes different than what is in the original version. The poor scans almost make this version unusable. If you can find an original, get it.

Having been an illustrator for years and artist most of my life, I came upon this book - lost in the overwhelming galaxy of anatomy books for artists online and elsewhere - and bought it thinking it looked okay based on the pictures of the inside of the book on Amazon. I bought it at the same time that I bought about 5 other anatomy books, many of them elaborately illustrated with HD photographs and overlays, often ten times more expensive than this little, compact book written by David Kresz Rubins in 1953. But those other books still - for the most part - sit on my desk in a neat pile only occasionally used.This book, however, is extraordinary in its simple yet detailed display of muscles and how bones are wrapped in them, how the body can move and why, and why it looks the way it does. The amazingly clear way that Rubins shows each part of the body, layering it up from bones to muscles to skin, and then shows those parts of the body bending and twisting, and how those forms are created by what's beneath - is really tremendously helpful. He's really detailing the architecture of the body, and I've copied his drawings a great deal. (Just this weekend, for instance, I've been copying his wonderful drawings of leg muscles and how legs are structured... and I've learned so much.)I draw these days on a Cintiq, and next to it is this book, forever bent open to some page from which I am copying anatomical drawings by Rubins. Every time I go through it and closely observe his drawings, draw from them, I discover new about a muscle group or the way the body is formed. It's a jewel of a book.If you spend time with it and really study and draw from its contents you will advance your anatomical understanding by leagues.

One of the best books about the human figure. It was recommended by one of my art professors and he was so right. Each page has in-depth illustrations with perfect explanations on each part of the body. If you take it step by step through the whole book you will be learning how to identify and draw each part of the body. The art is crisp and clean which is why I recommend taking a colored pencil and filling in each different piece with a color to help you break up each section. The book I ordered was used, but came with no marks, no bent pages and over-all was what I considered to be like-new quality.

I used extensively a copy of the book from the local library and loved it so much that I decided to own one. I ordered the same Dover edition and was disappointed to find out that the quality of the print is much worse than the copy from the library. The bad rating is only due to the poor reprint, the book itself is great

This is a must read/ study and copy text for art students. Be aware that over the years the reproductions are losing details as if something were being copied from a copy etc. What you would expect from etchings but not a modern printing process.

Very nice little book. The illustrations will make for good practice. The book itself, for whatever reason, has a very strong smell of pinesol or something. It's weird and I hope it goes away because it's very strong.Great book!

I bought this used in "very good condition" from Yellow Square Books and it arrived with the cover falling off, frayed edged and writing need pages.The book itself is a great tool for learning form though, 4/4 for the book if it were remotely in good condition.

This is a nice, concise reference for human figure drawing. It covers each layer with a nice set of of the 4 major angles with some accessory drawings showing how things work. Its not definitive but it is a much smaller and lighter book making it far more portable and far easier to flip through when you need a quick reference.

Woodstock is one of the most famous events in the 1960’s, one of the most tumultuous decades in American history. Not only does this book portray in words, drawings and photos, the Woodstock music festival, but it furnishes a birds-eye view of the history of the 1960’s. Well-written concise profiles of the Vietnam War, political and social change, and sixties slang are included. There are time lines of the sixties for the United States as well as one of events happening around the globe. An age appropriate bibliography for additional reading on these topics is also included.Music promoter, Michael Lang conceived the concert idea. Desiring to open up a recording studio for young artists in Woodstock, about 120 miles north of New York City, he convinced Artie Kornfield of Capitol Records that this was a good idea. While playing a game of pool one night, they decided to raise money for their project by having a giant outdoor music concert. They needed a large space, security, lighting, outdoor toilets, food, water, a stage and lots of music bands. Problem after problem arose. Their plans fell through and the location was changed three times. Eventually, they contracted with a local farmer, Max Yasgur in Bethel, NY. They planned for 50,000 people, but 500,000 came. The roads were so clogged that people had to walk ten miles from their cars, and bands had to be flown in by helicopter. A thunderstorm threatened to destroy it, but the three day event in August, 1969 became a message of peace and hope for people young and old. Well-known artists like Jimi Hendrix and Joan Baez played as well as then unknowns like Santana and Credence Clearwater Revival. The organizers made no money. It is clearly updated for the new iPhone XS models. I recommend this book for anyone who would like to learn how to maximize their ability to enjoy the myriads of features that come with this engineering marvel, the iPhone XS,

I'm only on page 41 (out of 680!) but I've easily more than doubled my knowledge of my iPhone (XS). It may take me a long while to finish but it's the most useful tech reference I've ever used and I'm trying to absorb the information a little slowly to avoid overload. At each step so far I have iPhone in hand and try things out. Of course I'm amazed at the complexity of the iPhone and iOS 12 and now I have Pogue's book to see me through. Highly recommended.

Don't buy this version it is useless unless you are working with iOS 12 software including iPhone XR, XS and XS Max. Could not even tell me how to block nuisance calls except my contacts, which of course I do not want to block.

This is a comprehensive and detailed but easy to read explanation of the mind staggering features of the iPhone. At nearly 700 pages no detail is left unexamined. I especially liked the explanation of the iPhone camera capabilities. I first bought the de Leon manual which I reviewed as “useless” it’s an 84 page , large type, large spaces between lines work which doesn’t contain one one thousands of the info of this manual.

I haven't found a question that this book hasn't handled. Not always directly, and sometimes the results of a not-so-great index, but this is an excellent reference. I've also found it useful to read various chapters to learn how to use particularly obscure features. Book weighs a ton, but I don't know if you can retain printing quality with lighter paper.
