This is the first of three books describing the experiences of the 101st LRP (long range patrol) teams or "lurps" of the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam.This book, book one, describes the lurp team associated with the 1st brigade detachment of the 101st division which preceeded the whole division in Vietnam by about a year.The book provides a brief introduction to the soldiers who made up the initial teams and then goes into stories about specific missions and what happened to this soldiers, primarily in the 1966-1967 timeframe.I found some of the stories about actual missions very interesting but some were quite anticlimactic. This may be because I have already read several books about LRP and LRRP in Vietnam.On the whole, it was a pretty good book, but I thought it could be a little better written (or perhaps better edited).
This was a really good book filled with lots of action by some very brave men. What I found really interesting was the men that volunteered to be KEEPs and what happened to them after they disbanded and went on with their lives, either continuing to fight in Vietnam or even eventually during in future battles. Thanks for the enjoyable read.

WERE DRAFTES WHO FOUGHT FOR THEIR COUNTRY AND THEIR BROTHERS---- THE SOLDIERS WHO CAME BACK ARE STILL LIVING WITH MEMORIES OF WHAT HAPPENED THERE---------SEEING THEIR BUDDIES KILLED AND TORN APART AND TRYING TO STAY ALIVE TO COME BACK HOME GLAD THEY MADE IT ONLY TO BE TREATED LIKE BABY KILLERS-------I WISH A LOT OF PEOPLE COULD HAVE LIVED IN THEIR SHOES TO SEE HOW THEY REALLY WENT THROUGH AND HAVE A DIFFRENT OUTLOOK AS TO WHAT THEY WENT THROUGH AND TO GIVE THEM THE RESPECT THE RICHLY DESERVED----------------MY TOTAL RESPECT FOR THEM
This is a very good book about life in a small unit sneaking around in the enemies back yard. You feel like your there.
Interesting stories about true heroes. And with all due respect to the service of the author, just don't think book overall is well written, format-wise. Disjointed, doesn't flow. Sorry.

I agree this was awesome written.The portion about Sully is about my uncle George, we called him Blookie all of his life.The author signed a copy and wrote a note in the front of the book, and mailed to my mother when the book first came out, which has now been lost.We would love to have another signed copy.
