My 6 young children (ages 12 to 3) and I have all had fun with this book. In fact, everyone in my family keeps passing it around and I have a hard time finding it when I want to use it, so I purchase 2 more of Christopher Hart's book to keep for my self, and the kids get this one to use. The book has allowed me to re-find a love in art that I lost 20 years ago as a child. You will not be disappointed in the purchase.

Lots of great instruction in this one. And, humongous is the truth! While the drawings are simplistic this is the perfect beginner book. Just what was called for.

Christopher Hart is the cartoon guru and his books are easy to follow, and have a lot of great information in them. I own several of his books and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book, or any of his other books to anyone who is interested in the art of cartooning.

This book truly is humongous! Couldn't they find any thicker paper?Aside from that...Christopher Hart is wonderful!This book is wonderful!Just add some paper and pencils and you are ready to draw something silly and make someone smile.To quote Arnold Schwarzenegger, "DO IT!"

I have two students who are really interested in drawing cartoons. After reviewing at least 20 books on Amazon.com I decided to wait for this book to come out and pre-ordered a copy.I now have it in front of me and believe it will be an excellent book for both students so I just ordered another one.The instructions are clear and the examples are simply fantastic.I personally have never been able to draw anything but even I now believe I could draw a cartoon character.This book is strongly recommended as THE starter book. Even for students who can not read it would not take much time for a parent to read the instructions to the student and then let the student take it from there.This would be a great book for any home school student interested in cartooning.This book does not, and does not pretend to, discuss anything about story lines or how to "make it" in the cartooning world. Chris Hart's "How To Draw Cartoons for Comic Strips" is a much better book in my opinion. However,this book is great for the artist that enjoys drawing cartoon characters from television animation.

This book will take you from beginner or novice, through the steps of creating Chris's own characters, which leads you to creating your own. It is incredibly useful and I refer back to it all the time.

I want to add that to my eye Connected Content is in the same phase of emergence now as Responsive Web Design was circa 2012/2013. I've worked with lots of clients who know that the way their content is stored and served up sucks, but don't really know what to make of structured or connected content (and are probably silently hoping it will just go away). Mike and Carrie will help you make a case to these folks that connected content is not going anywhere and that if content publishers want to continue to stay relevant (and in control of what they publish), they're going to have to pay more attention to how their content is put together, as opposed to simply how it looks on the page.This book will also give you the tools to plan, execute, and deliver connected content to your client or organization. You'll see several themes that come up in similarly brilliant work by Sara Wachter-Boettcher and Karen McGrane, as well as new ways of putting them all together and examples aplenty of where they occur out in the world. But most importantly – like Ethan Marcotte's seminal book on responsive web design – this book gives you the tools and a structured process to design and build structured and connected content solutions in context. Chapter 8, "Implementing Connected Content," spoke to me specifically around a project I'm working on. Intranets especially can be improved by thinking about structuring content, and the project I'm on now is being improved just because I have thought differently about the work I'm doing...thanks to Designing Connected Content.I've attended talks that each and both have given over the years, and I've always hoped there'd be a book to codify their thoughts. Glad to see it's here!If I had to quibble, it'd be about some book design decisions: The orange chapter separators look nice, but the lack of contrast means it's hard to read the white type on that orange. Orange you wishing you'd chosen a different color, New Riders?That being said, I've been waiting for this book for some time. While other great books recently have talked about content strategy (viz. Bloomstein, Halverson, Jones, Wachter-Boettcher), this one seems more practical for my purposes. YMMV, but I'd highly recommend it.

My colleagues and I have dubbed this "the best book ever" thanks to the clarity it brings to the loaded practice of content modeling. By starting with a model of the subject area (domain), the approach in this book grounds the model in "truth", giving it the most stable foundation possible. Content types, their attributes, and their relationships derive from this reality. Then, once you solidly understand these "building blocks", you can mix and match them in any user-facing representation that you want. I love it!I recommend this book for anyone who:- Doesn't know where to start with content modeling- Wants a beginning-to-end process for designing and delivering content that can withstand future technology innovations- Wants to base their model off of more than existing content. This seems like a more resilient way.- Has tried content modeling before and failed- Finds it difficult to make decisions and plans because content structure, sourcing, delivery, and design are too tangled together. This book divides complex content problems into manageable, bounded conversations.- Needs a way to drive alignment among their content stakeholders- Believes good content architecture requires good understanding of the subject domainI can go on. Really, all content strategists should read this book.

This would be one of the two books that I would give my teenage sons and I did just that. The writing is positive. engaging and intelligent. It is also easy to read. A very powerful message that directly challenges the false assumptions that we make about our personas that cause us to suffer and effect our self image. This is a book that can be read and read again because you will always get more out of it. Cheri Huber is one of the most important thought leaders of our time.

I enjoyed reading 'Legend:...' by Eric Blehm and was especially riveted during battle when Roy Benavidez was involved. Technically, I have to admit that this book is not entirely about Roy and his achievements, and is written in four parts. The first is about Roy's adolescent years and difficulties he encountered while growing up with his uncle and aunt in a small Texas town. There was a strong bond between Roy and his family as well as with his boss when he worked at the Firestone Tire Store. Part 2 tells about Roy's experience in the Army and the training he completed prior to earning his Green Beret and going to Vietnam early in the war for his 1st tour. Part 3 is pretty much dedicated to introducing all the other people that had a role in the actual battle (I was somewhat confused here and had trouble remembering all the other names of pilots and ground personnel). The story continues with the insertion of two SF teams - 9 miles inside of the border of Cambodia. Their mission was to observe the Ho Chi Minh trail and ideally hijack a Russian built truck and some prisoners. However, shortly after their insertion, they are compromised and requested immediate pick-up; usually, the chopper returns to withdraw the team but a major in the overhead C&C denied their request and ordered the team leader to continue with the mission. What they soon discovered is that they were inserted onto the fringes of a Regimental or Division sized headquarters with thousands of NVA soldiers. Under fire, the team splits into two groups and locates two probable locations to the side of the original LZ in which to defend themselves. By the time higher up approve the evacuation, both teams are in dire straits - some team members were already severely wounded or dead. The firing is so intense, choppers are unable to land and sustain severe damage. The O-2 Bird dog FA announced a special code over the radio that signals an emergency with a high probability of units on the ground being overrun. It didn't take long before jets and gunships responded and immediately targeted the never ending supply of NVA regulars. Part 4 then continues with the battle and Roy Benavidez's involvement.Choppers are crashing and crews dying in the many attempt to reach the beleaguered troops. The action Roy takes is beyond belief and readers will be awed by his calmness and determination to get everybody back to safety. The story continues to describe the rest of the battle and their eventual evacuation from the LZ. Only a few survived. Benavidez was tagged in triage and left with the other dead bodies stacked outside of the hospital because of so much damage to his body. Miraculously, he garnered enough strength and fortitude to spit at the orderly who almost finished zippering him up in a black body bag. When discovering that Roy was alive, they rushed to save his life. He spent over a year convalescing from his injuries, and remained in San Antonio to be close to his family. Afterward, he continued in active service in the Army until his eventual retirement.Roy deserved the Medal of Honor for his actions that day, however, his involvement in Cambodia was top secret, and instead, the Dept. of the Army awarded him the Distinguished Service Cross - a step below the MOH. SF soldiers were sworn to secrecy and agreed not to expose anything about their missions or locations for thirty years. The penalty for doing so is a dishonorable discharge, large fine and imprisonment.Ten years later, those who survived the battle wrote reports that detailed Roy's actions during that fateful day in hopes of reversing the decision regarding Roy's MOH, yet the Army refused to upgrade it. Others continued the effort and when an eye witness came forward - one who Roy thought perished and vice-versa, and his testimony tipped the scales. The MOH was awarded for his actions in a battle west of a town in South Vietnam and Cambodia was not inferred.This is a great read with a lot of detail of the actual events. Roy was quoted in the book, "that day was filled with heroes, all trying very hard to save this team, unfortunately, many of them did not survive the battle." The last third of the book will keep you reading until the end! RIP Roy Benavidez! The unbelievable story of an incredible man, a genuine patriot and American hero. I loved the way his grandfather taught him how to be proud of his Mexican heritage and family name while at the same time inculcating pride in his country, which his Texas ancestors fought for. His grandfather and uncle also taught him what it means to be a real man, which included helping anyone who needs help.He had a rough start in life after his father died of TB, then his mother died of TB and his stepfather wanted nothing to do with him and his brother. Thanks to his mother who contacted his uncle before she died, his uncle took him in, adding to the eight children already in the family.I can't believe I may have been undergoing training during the same time he was at Ft Bragg, N.C., and was in VN when he was, but I only recently learned about him.The fact that he did what he did, saving the lives of eight men, USSF, chopper pilots, door gunners, and VN, without getting killed is a miracle in itself. When they unloaded the choppers, they found three dead NVA he accidentally saved. (The USSF and CIDG were wearing NVA uniforms.)The sad part is how long it took to give him the Medal of Honor because the Army didn't want to admit the action took place in Cambodia when the president and politicians kept claiming no US personnel were there.A well-written book that is hard to put down when the action gets hot!
